Gifts for His Service explores the three categories of spiritual gifts revealed in the New Testament—The Manifestation Gifts, The Ministry Gifts, and The Motivational Gifts. Like tools in a master craftsman’s toolbox, each gift is distinct yet essential, designed by God to build up the body of Christ and equip every believer for service. This series will help you discover how God has shaped you uniquely and how giftings flow into His purpose for your life.
The apostle Paul begins his teaching on spiritual gifts because he does not want the Church to be ignorant or misinformed about them. The scripture challenges us to understand that operating in the gifts of the Holy Spirit involves special endowments of supernatural energy. “NOW ABOUT the spiritual gifts (the special endowments of supernatural energy), brethren, I do not want you to be misinformed.” (I Cor. 12:1 AMPC)
The Manifestation Gifts operate within the Church and the marketplace to create beneficial effects for humankind. The Manifestation Gifts are not about performance or man’s abilities. The manifestation of the Holy Spirit is as HE wills. “But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually as He wills.” (I Cor. 12:11 NKV)
“But to each one is given the manifestation of the [Holy) Spirit] [the evidence, the spiritual illumination of the Spirit] for good and profit.” (I Cor. 12:7 AMPC) The Greek word Paul used is ‘phanerōsis’ (φανέρωσις) appears in I Corinthians 12:7 (NKJV). The verse reads: “But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all:”
In Greek, the word translated as “manifestation” is phanerōsis, (Strong’s Greek 5321) which means a “manifestation,” disclosure, or visible display. While the word is most directly translated as “manifestation” or “revelation,” it carries the sense of something previously hidden being clearly revealed or brought into the open. Phanérōsis – a manifestation, a “coming to light.”
This word emphasizes that the Holy Spirit makes His presence known through these spiritual gifts. In the context of this verse, the term is used to explain that the Holy Spirit, though invisible, is made visibly and tangibly evident through the spiritual gifts given to believers. These gifts are not for personal use alone but are meant for the common good of the entire church.
The Manifestation Gifts Categorized
The Holy Spirit manifests through believers by nine distinct gifts, grouped into Revelation, Power, and Inspiration gifts or vocal gifts.
“But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all: for to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, to another the word of knowledge through the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healings by the same Spirit, to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits, to another different kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually as He wills.” (I Corinthians 12:7-10 NKJV)

The Manifestation Gifts Defined
THE REVELATION GIFTS Reveal- These gifts reveal something:
1. The gift of the word of wisdom is supernatural revelation from God of His mind and divine purpose, through the Holy Spirit bringing forth counsel, revelation, and understanding for future situations.
2. The gift of the word of knowledge is a supernatural revealing of knowledge from God through the Holy Spirit to an individual, about a person, place or thing.
3. The gift of the discerning of spirits is the revelation to the individual, by the Holy Spirit, to sense or see into the supernatural realm, identifying both good and evil spirits.
THE POWER GIFTS Move – These gifts move something:
1. The gift of faith is wonder- working faith or special faith operating supernaturally, trusting in divine protection and provision of all types of needs being met. A special endowment of trust in God that brings supernatural results; often called “the gift of special faith.”
2. The gift of the working of miracles is the power God doing exploits, suspending or altering the course of nature, and controlling situations which cannot be accomplished with human strength.
3. The gifts of healings operate supernaturally to heal instantly all manner of sickness and disease without any natural means.
THE INSPIRATIONAL or VOCAL GIFTS Speak- These gifts say something:
1. The gift of prophecy is a supernatural utterance in a tongue understood, which brings forth edification, exhortation, and comfort.
2. The gift of divers kinds of tongues is a variety or different kinds of tongues which flow forth without any knowledge of a second language from a natural standpoint.
3. The gift of interpretation of tongues is interpreted supernaturally by the Holy Spirit what was uttered in an unknown tongue, song, and flow of a service. This brings edification to those who are present to hear.
We can begin to operate in these gifts freely as the Holy Spirit wills within the church and in the marketplace. I challenge you today to desire the spiritual gifts the Holy Spirit made available to all believers. “Pursue love, and desire spiritual gifts, but especially that you may prophesy.” (I Corinthians 14:1 NKJV)
